Jesus wants us to experience him in a concrete and real way.
- The people in the Gospel are driven by desire, the physical hunger is moving them in a direction to go find Jesus. We all have these human desires, they are natural. When we have a desire we tend to go back to where we think it will be satisfied. Jesus wants to take us to a new place, a deeper place.
- Jesus elevates our desires. Our physical hunger and the things that satisfy physically will perish. They are not lasting. Jesus is trying to redirect our desires, don't just focus on these things that will feel good for a time. There is something greater that is lasting.
- We are meant to desire the giver and not just the gift.
"It would seem that Our Lord finds our desires not too strong, but too weak. We are half hearted creatures, fooling about with drink and sex and ambition when infinite joy is offered us, like an ignorant child who wants to go on making mud pies in a slum because he cannot imagine what is meant by the offer of a holiday at the sea. We are far too easily pleased." -C.S. Lewis
