Everyone who believes in Me will forever live.
Three Points of the Homily:
1. We are dead in our sins.
The Valley of dry bones, which are brought to life when God asked Ezekiel to prophesy to it is a parable about Israel, dead in sin and idolatry, being brought back to life in God.
2. Jesus is the giver of life.
Raising Lazarus is a preview of man's resurrection after his death. But Jesus is not just talking about Eternal life after we die. Eternal life begins now. It is not just something for the future, so those who believe in him already have life. In that sense they will not die, if they die, they will live on. In retrospect then, death is really like falling asleep.
"I have come that they may have life, and have it in all its fullness." – Jn 10:10
3. Everyone who believes in Jesus will have eternal life that begins even now.
Believing is not just an intellectual assent but having the conviction to obey. We therefore need to repent for repentance is changing from a sinful lifestyle to one of obedience to God's laws.
The glory of God is a human being fully alive; and to be alive consists in beholding God.
