Jesus calls us, do we respond to His voice?

There are a lot of things that can distract us from what God wants to do in our lives. There are things that distract us that aren’t a problem but there are also things that distract us that can have much worse consequences. In the Gospel Jesus is talking about His call in our lives and He is warning us about what can happen if we are not responding to that call. He doesn’t want us to get snatched away from Him.  For a shepherd in the time of Jesus there were so many dangers facing sheep so a shepherd had to be willing to lay down his life for his sheep. This is what Jesus did for us. If we respond and say yes I’m going to follow you and listen to your call, we receive eternal life, we receive the gift that Jesus won for us on the cross and nothing can take that away from us.  Its true, there are a lot of things that can distract us, jealousy, envy, unbelief, etc and Jesus wants to guard us from these things. If there is anything that ever gets in our way of saying yes to Jesus we need to turn away from these things and turn back to HIm.  We say yes to Jesus every time we receive the Eucharist here at mass. And to all the children receiving first communion today, we say yes to Him when we say Amen, we say I want to be close to you Jesus my whole life; it’s a very exciting thing! Jesus calls each of you by name and says I love you and want you to know my love all the days of your life. And as we go forth from here that love in our lives can transform the whole world.
