“Pope John Paul II repeats at greater length what the Council has said. Here is some of what he says: "The Second Vatican Council speaks of the ministries and charisms as the gifts of the Holy Spirit which are given for the building up of the Body of Christ and for its mission of salvation in the world. Indeed, the Church is directed and guided by the Holy Spirit, who lavishes diverse hierarchical and charismatic gifts on all the baptised, calling them to be, each in an individual way, active and co-responsible." (Christifideles Laici 21) Again, very clear.
“These charisms ordinarily become activated in people's lives when they experience what is known as being baptised with the Spirit. This is a spiritual awakening that occurs in the life of the believer who repents of whatever sin may exist in his life, freely places his whole being under the Lordship of Jesus, and simply asks the Lord to baptise him with the Holy Spirit. Some prefer to call it an outpouring of the Spirit. Yet others speak of an infilling of the Spirit. Whatever we call it, it's real, and it is most often accompanied by an ongoing manifestation of these peculiar charisms of the Holy Spirit.”
