Novena for the Immaculate Conception

Day 2 - The Immaculate Conception

Immaculate ConceptionToday we reflect on the 2nd of the 4 Marian Dogmas (official proclamations of the Church), The Immaculate Conception. People sometimes get this one confused with the Annunciation where Jesus was conceived in the womb of Mary – Instead this Dogma refers to Mary’s own conception in the womb of her mother, St. Anne. The dogma of the Immaculate Conception was solemnly defined by Pope Pius IX in 1854. It teaches that Mary, in the first instant of her conception, by a singular grace granted by Almighty God, in view of the merits of Jesus’ work on the Cross, was preserved free from all stain of original sin.
