“Advent” means the beginning of a presence. This Presence is the One who really matters for our happiness, fulfillment and holiness. When we prepare to encounter and welcome Him, Jesus, our lives are changed!
Advent is a penitential season, a time for us to enter into the “Desert”, were we discover our need/dependence upon the Lord and our own poverty. We run to the Lord who is our strength.
Do we search out the desert? Do we search out a place where we can be alone with the Lord to hear Him? Will we cultivate times of silence this Advent? Not just the absence of noise, but the presence of God! [Tweet This]
When we are alone with the Lord we discover our true vocation, his unique and individual call for our life, because our hearts have been captured by His Presence.
He will come, “like a thief in the night” (1 Thess. 5:2), not to surprise, shock or injure us, but to rob us of what slows and weighs us down in our desire to pursue Him. He is a thief who frees us.
