Lay People Have the Access

Fr. Scott PreachingSomebody asked me one time, “Father where do you get this from? You guys are always telling people to say yes to Christ.” I said, do you remember the annunciation? What happened at the annunciation? Mary didn’t know what was going on. She didn’t know the full scope of God’s plan, but she gave her yes.

  • Proclamation of the Word - what we do.
  • The response of the hearer - what the hearer does.
  • The work of God - which transforms and changes.

“As lay people, you have access to those who won’t darken the door of a Church. It’s hard for me to run into those people, because they’re avoiding the place where I work!” Tweet Button

“The lay faithful’s position in the Church [is] distinguished by their secular character.”

We sometimes think that if something is ‘secular’, it is bad, or second rate, but you are called to be “in the world, but not of it.” “Deep involvement & full participation in the affairs of the earth, the world…with the purpose of spreading of the Gospel that brings salvation.”  (Vatican II, Christifideles Laici, 15)
