2017 Pentecost Appeal

Just imagine if 3,000 people were converted in one day in your community!

“Now when they heard this, they were cut to the heart and said to Peter and to the other apostles, “Brothers what should we do?” Peter said to them, “Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ so that your sins may be forgiven; and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. So those who welcomed his message were baptized, and that day about three thousand persons were added..” Acts 2:37-38, 41

The Catholic Church today is active in an astounding number of good works. Still, we appeal to you today with a certain sense of urgency. In 1971, only 4% of Canadians said they had no religious affiliation. Today that number is approaching 25%! In addition, 47% of Canadians identified themselves as Catholic in 1971. Today that number has dropped to 39%.

Each of us has experienced the heartache of seeing someone we know and love drift away from the Church. Today, more than ever, our Church needs leaders who have a heart for the New Evangelization.

We need leaders who have the ability to inspire all the baptized to be fully alive in their faith. Moreover, our priests must equip the lay faithful to be missionary disciples. So that each of us can become agents in the renewal of the Church and society.

We can see the Church fully alive in the lived experience of the early Church in the Acts of the Apostles:

“Now the whole group of those who believed were of one heart and soul, and no one claimed private ownership of any possessions, but everything they owned was held in common. With great power the apostles gave their testimony to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus, and great grace was upon them all. There was not a needy person among them, for as many as owned lands or houses sold them and brought the proceeds of what was sold. They laid it at the apostles’ feet, and it was distributed to each as any had need.” Acts 4:32-35

The Companions of the Cross base our ministry on this vision for the Church.

Community formation and fellowship are central to who we are, the fruits of which include:

  1. A brotherhood that supports & inspires our priests, seminarians, and young men considering the priesthood
  2. Effective evangelization that reaches youth and those fallen away from the Church
  3. Increased renewal in faith communities through empowering lay leaders for ministry
  4. Greater dedication to serving the poor and marginalized in our communities

“The unity of our life together will authenticate the gospel we proclaim and give it power!” – Fr. Bob Bedard, CC Founder

The New Evangelization requires a new kind of priest—a bold and courageous leader.

The Companions of the Cross are recruiting, forming, and sending out that kind of leader. Our priests are humble yet bold. They have a passion and zeal that is attractive, they are down- to-earth and filled with joy. This can only happen with God’s grace and the prayers and financial support of generous people like you.

Each of us have stories of how a wonderful priest has inspired us in our journey in faith. We hope that gratitude for God’s gift of the priesthood will inspire you to make a gift to our Pentecost Appeal. We pray that you will seize this opportunity to give back to God a generous measure of what God has given to you. Your generosity will advance 0ur mission and build a Church Fully Alive! Please help bring new life to the Church.

“Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together, running over, will be put into your lap; for the measure you give will be the measure you get back.” Luke 6:38

You can make a difference in the lives of a countless number of people who will encounter Christ through a Companions of the Cross priest.

Always grateful and hopeful in our good and gracious God,

“What will I return to the Lord for all his bounty to me?” (Psalm 116:12)
